Schoenborn
(orginally Schoenquell - beautiful spring) was established
by Lutheran settlers in 1849. After 1853 a number of the
settlers from Hoffnungsthal relocated to
Schoenborn. The original Schoenborn Bethlehem Lutheran church
was completed in 1856 (a new church was errected on a different
site in 1927).
The district of Neu Mecklenberg which
embraced Schoenborn was renamed Gomersal in 1918 though the
Schoenborn church retained it name.
