The HG Wappaus of 304 tons.

Under the command of captain Peterson the HG Wappaus departed Hamburg on 29 October 1848 stopped at Rio de Janiro The ship was unable to proceed to Adelide because of a severe storm and after stopping in Portland arrived in Port Phillip (Melbourne) on 7 March 1849 where many of the passengers disembarked.  The HG Wappaus arrived in Port Adelaide on 31 March 1849.

Passenger List

The HG Wappaus carried 191 passengers (72 male adults, and 59 female adults, 31 male children and 29 female children).  There were 16 deaths and four births on the voyage.  The list of Melboune passengers is largely base on the list that appears in [6] supplemented by information that appears in .  That of Adelaide passengers is based on entries in Biographical Index of South Australians 1836-1885 [1] and on partial passenger lists that appear on various web sites.
