OBITUARY

Mr. J. C. F. Henschke, senr, of
Edithburgh, died on Monday, June 1,
at the Yorketown District Hospital.
Mr. Henschke had been in indifferent
health for some considerable time.
He had a paralytic stroke about
twelve months ago and did not fully
recover fronm its effects. He was
born on January 1, 1844, at Tweed-
vale (then known as Lobethal) and
was one of the oldest pioneers in this
district. He was married at Eden
Valley on May 10, 1867, and arrived
at Edithburgh in 1871. He took an
active part in the management of his
farm up to within five years of the
time of his death. The deceased
gentleman was a constant church
attendant, and was organist at the
Lutheran Church for 58 years. He
was very fond of music and became a
talented musician. The surviving
members of the family are—Hermann,
Adolph, Theodore and Ewalt
Henschke, Mrs. W. Preuss and Mrs.
R. Voigt all of Edithburgh. Mr
Henschke enjoyed splendid health up
to the age of 83 and had no cause to
consult a doctor previous to the time
of his recent illness. He drove a
motor car at the age of 85.
