OBITUARY
An old and respected resident of
Hahndorf, Mr. Franz Wilhelm Dahl,
79, died recently. He was born at
Hahndorf, and was educated at the
Hhndorf College, under Mr. Boehm,
and later under Mr. Schtreng. He was
apprenticed to the smithing trade
under the late Mr. Haebich, and later
to the carpentering trade, under his
father-in-law, the late Mr. Faehr-
mann, which trade he followed up to
a few years ago, both at Hahndorf and
Pinnaroo and Murrayville diistrict. Mr.
Dahl was very fond of music and in
the earlier days was conductor of the
Hahndorf Brass Band, and also a re-
gular player in the Pinnaroo Band.
Having a fine bass voice, he was asso-
ciated with the Hahndorf Liedertafel,
and was one of several who were in-
vited to sing with the Adelaide Lieder-
tafel on the occasion of the visit of]
the late King George V. (then Duke
of York) to Adelaide. He was a keen
rifle shot and was always a familiar
figure at tne various Kingship rifle
matches. Of his first marriage there
were eight children. Messrs. C. A. E., of

R. H. Pfeiffer, of Parrakie (de-

bridge (deceased); and Mrs. H. White,
Preston, Victoria. In 1915 he lost
his first wife after a short illness, and
in 1917 he married Miss Florence Day
of Echunga. of which union there is
one daughter, Mrs. E. Ahrens, of Hahn
dorf.
