Mr. Ch
ristian Johann. Siegele, whosedeath was announced last week, was anative of Lowenstein, Wurtemberg,Germany. He learnt his trade asa miller in his father's mill, andwas known as one of the best stone millersin the State. He left Germany in 1863.and went to Queensland, where he stayedonly a year. Then he went to Stockwell,where he resided till his death. He firstworked at Both's water-wheel mill at Lyn-doch, which was afterwards turned into aflax mill, but as such it was a failure, Flaxcultivation was carried on at Lyndoch atthe time, but was. abandoned. Then fora short while he worked at the Tanundamill. Next he milled in the local mill forMr. Harrison, the father of the present firmof Messrs. Harrison & Co., of Port Ade-laide. That was in the noted red rust yearof 1867, when so many crops were damagedby red rust. Then in turn he worked atDuffield's mill, Gawler; Gold's, at Allan-dale; and the mill at Greenock. For 14years he was employed by Mr: E. Daveyas miller at Penrice, near Angaston. In1885 he. operated at the local mill for Mr.Clement. He purchased the Lyndoch milland was succeeded there by his son Charles,who still runs it. He left, beside hiswidows three sons, John (Stockwell), Carl(Lyndoch), and William (Adelaide), onedaughter, Mrs. Paul Warnecke, and sevengrandchildren.
