Mr. Peter Shearer, who died on Wednes-

day at Clarence Park, at the age of 75
years, was the last of another pioneering
family. He arrived in South Australia
72 years ago from the Orkney Islands, Scot-
land. He spent the greater portion of his
life in the north, but had lived latterly in
Adelaide. Like many other pioneers he
visited the Ballarat goldfields in the early
'fifties of last century. He has left a
widow, nine sons—Messrs. R. J., J. A., P.
P., H. G., H. S., Elliot L., and F. C.
Shearer (Adelaide), Mr. W. G. Shearer
(Sydney), and Mr. Edward L. Shearer
(Victoria)—and five daughters—Mesdames
E. E. Baldwin and J. P. Lomman (Ade-
laide), Miss M. V. Shearer (Sydney), and
Miss A. B. Shearer (Adelaide); and 24
grandchildren.
