OBITUARY
Mrs. Elizabeth Stoeckel, wife of Mr
Ludwig Theodore Stoeckel, of Queen's
Reach, Murthoo, died on Tuesday,
April 2. at the advanced age of 80
years. Though of so great an age,
Mrs Stoeckel's death was not antici-
pated by her husband or sons, as even
so late as Sunday last the deceased
lady seemed to be in the enjoyment of
good health. Sunday evening, how
ever, she became unwell, and after a
bad night and morning, she experi
enced a sudden stroke from which she
never rallied. From 2 p.m. on.Mon-.
day. till 2 p.m. on Tuesday she re
mained in a state of stupor, and then
passed quietly away. Mrs Stoeckel
was born in Brunswick, Germany, in
1827, and emigrated, with a married
sister, to South Australia in 1848, in
ihe revolutionary times when many
good Germans were leaving the
Fatherland for the sake of gaining
religious freedom. Mr. Stoeckel,
who survives, was a passenger by the
same boat, and the two were married
shortly afrer arrival in Adelaide. Mr
William Stoeckel, of Paringa, and
Messrs Fred and Richard Stoeckel, of
Murthoo, are sons of the deceased,
who has left also a number of grand
children to mourn their loss. The
funeral took place yesterday morning
at Murthoo, Mr J. F. Dunstan offici
ating at the grave.
