Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser (NSW : 1893 - 1953) Friday 12 April 1940
33164MRS. A.
PERTZELThe death occurred on Saturday
of Mrs. Amelia Pertzel, wife of Mr.
F. Pertzel, of 'Morningsite,' Mil-
bruloug, aged 67 years.
The deceased could be fittingly
described bs one of the most typical
of Australian-born pioneers. A
member of the Piefke family, which
had done its share for outback de-
velopment, she married Mr. Pertzel
in 1894. Very soon after they en-
gaged in the great dual task which
has meant so much to Australian
development, namely, the carving
out of a home on a property in its
wild, virgin state, and the rearing
of a large family.
The funeral took place in the
presence of a large gathering of rela-
tives and district frieuds. Pastor
Helwig, of the Milbrulong Lutheran
Church, officiated. Mr. Franz
Pertzel, the widower was unable to
attend owing to illness. The six
sons and four daughters of the fam-
ily attended, and the sons subse-
quently acted as carriers. The sons
are Messrs. Arthur, Benjamin
(Grong Grong), Edward, George,
Wenzell and Albert Pertzel, aud
the daughters are Mrs. N. H. Hoff-
mann, Milbrulong; Mrs. Arthur
Knobel, Cowra; Mrs. M. Brennan,
Milbrulong, and Miss H. Pertzel.
It was the deceased's wish that there
might be no break in her family
before she passed away, and this
wish was gratified.
