The Rev. Samuel Rossiter.

The Bcv. Samuel Rossiter, who died at
the Memorial Hospital, North Adelaide,
on December 27, at the age of 63.
years, was an able and highly esteemed
Methodist minister. His early years were
spent at Moonta, where he engaged in the.
building trade with hiB father as an archi
tect. He received his principal education
at Prince Alfred. College, but turned down
an early suggestion of a student's life, and
subsequently continued in business. He
entered tlie Methodist ministry in 1883,
and his first appointment was at Blinman.
He next ministered at Hawker, where
his architectural knowledge was used in
the designing of the local church. His
services in that direction were frequently
availed of in the erection of country
churches. Mr. Rossiter was the first
ordained minister appointed by the Metho
dist Church to Broken Hill, where his
monument abides in the structures of the
denomination in that district. Imme
diately preceding his appointment to
Glenelg he superintended the largest cir
cuit in his conference—Kadina and Wal
laroo. For 12 years he filled the position
of general trust secretary, of United'
Methodism in South Australia, and he in
troduced and established, the connexions'
fire insurance fund. His preaching was
characterised by vision and vigour. Dur
ing. bis career he also had charge of
churches at Mintaro,. Maitland, Port Pirie,
Kapunda, Snowtown, SLrathalbyn, Mal
lala, Clarendon, Prospect,, and Archer
street, North Adelaide. He married Miss
Mitchell, a sister of Mr. E. E. Mitchell, of
Woodville, but she predeceased him in
1919. A few months ago Mr. Rossiter mar
ried Miss Jane Jacobs, a school teacher
of Cherry Gardens. The late pastor was
a well-read' man, and a keen student of
political economy. He was also a great
horse fancier and judge, and always owned
good animals. He has left a widow and
three sons, Messrs. Leonard, Clarence, and
Eric Rossiter.
