Mr. R. Dehnert Dead
Mr. Reinhold Dehnert, who died
at his home at East Doncaster onFriday, aged 102 years, had livedin the Doncaster district for 81years. He had had no illnessesuntil last year, and attributed hislongevity to plain living.Born at Breslau, in Saxony, on April25, 1836, he came to Australia at theage of 17 years, and five years latersettled at Doncaster, where he has livedever since. At 23 years he marriedChristina Aunann, who died 18 yearsago. He had five sons and three daugh-ters, all of whom are still living, andat his death had 21 grandchildren and [2?]great-grandchildren.Mr. Dehnert was a very successful or-chardist, and for many years was famousfor his table grapes, grown on 23 acresof vines on his Doncaster property, andretailed at the Victoria Market. Mr.Dehnert was equally successful with thecultivation of pears, and at one time wasknown as "the pear king."The funeral took place on Saturdayat the Box Hill Cemetery. Arrangementswere made by A. W. Padbury and Co.and the service was conducted by theRev. J. Simpfendorfer.
