Mr. A. H. Menz.
The death occurred from pneumonia,
at the North Adelaide Private Hospital
on Sunday, of Mr. August Hermann
Menz, in his 68th year. Deceased, who was
born in Wakefield street, Adelaide, in
1855; on the site of the present large
premises of W. Menz & Co., was a bro-
ther of the late Mr. W. Menz, with
whom he was engaged in the business of
biscuit and confectionery manufacturing.
The enterprise began in 1850 as a bakery
and grocery shop.. The late Mr. A. H.

Menz became associated -with it in 1868,
and in 1887, a start was made with the
making of biscuits, and later confectionery
waa introduced, when the grocery depart-
ment was abandoned. The business, which
is still on the same site, has grown into
one of the most extensive concerns of its
kind. Mr. W. Menz died in 1896, and
Mr. A. H. Menz became sole proprietor
until about four years ago, when the
business was formed into a limited com-
pany. He then became Chairman of
Directors. Deceased's health broke down
when he was 44 years of age, and since
that time he had never been robust. From
1899 to 1905 he and his family lived in
Switzerland, where he had gone in search
of health. He made many trips to Eng
land and Europe, and returned from th6
last of these only about'two months ago.
Mr Menz was married in 1889, and has
left a widow, two sons, and one daugh-
ter-Messrs. H. U. and W. O. Menz, and
Miss Menz. There are two grandchildren.
Deceased had resided for the last 20
years in Beulah road, Norwood.
