DEATH.
BATES.— On the 17th July, at Petersburg,
suddenly, Charlotte, widow of the late
John Bates, for many years a resident of
Kangaroo Island, Aged 78 years and 6
months.

65124Mrs. Charlotte Bates died at Petersburg
recently at the age of 78 years. She
was born in England and came with
her husband to South Australia 51 years
ago. They settled on Kangaroo Island,
where Mr; Bates died, in 1894. Mrs.
Bates and her family then left for Peters-
burg. There are six children living,
namely, Mesdames G. J. May (Kangaroo
Island), J. H. Hosting (Zion City,
U.S.A.), and. E. A. Burr (Broken Hill);
and Messrs. P. J. Bates, O. G. Bates,
and W. J. Bates (all of Broken Hill).
