CENTENARIAN'S DEATH.
Referring to the death of Mrs. Du
mesny, reported in our last issue, our
Vectis East correspondent sends the
following: It is with regret that I have
to report the death of one of the oldest
residents of the district in the person
of Mrs. Louisa Pauline Dumesny, relict
of the late Johann Gustav Dumesny,
who passed away at the residence of'
her daughter, Mrs. Jahn, at Quantong,
on Monday afternoon, at 3 o'clock. She
was born in Berlin on January 4, 1820,
and had reached the remarkable age of
101 years 9 months and 13 days. She
emigrated to Australia and landed in
Adelaide in 1849, and had been a resi
dent of Australia for 72 years. On Oc
tober 28, 1849, she married her late hus-
band at Klemsig, near Adelaide, and
five years later they came to Victoria
and settled in the Ararat district, where
for a long time the husband carried on
a market garden. In the year 1880
they came to the Wimmnera district,
where they remained to the end. Mr.
Dumesny predeceased his wife by 13
years. Since that time Mrs. Dumesny
had lived with her daughter at Quan
tong. The cause of death was pronoun-
ced as senility and heart trouble. Of
the family of four sons and two daugh
ters one son and one daughter have
died. There are 32 grandchildrcen and
33 great grandchildren: five grandchild
ren and one great grandchild have died.
The remains of deceased were interred
in the Quantong cemetery on Thursday,
Pastor Noack officiating. The coffin
bearers were Messrs O. Maroske, F. J.
Koenig, E. S. Lemm, E. Zerbst, C. Lind
ner and J. A. Hoffmann.
