OBITUARY

Mr. Simeon Henrick Schinckel, an
old resident of Naracoorte, died re-
cently aged 74 years. He was the eldest
of three sons of the late Mr P. L.
Schinckel, and was born at Bremer
Creek, near Callingcon, where he spent
his boyhood. His father having later
acqulred land at Mount Gambier, he
went there with bis parents overland in
1869. After spending nine months in
the district his father removed to Nara-
coorte and took up a block of land five
miles from the town. In 1886 Mr S
H. Schinckel married Miss Ann Amelia
Platt, of Naracoorte. In 1905 Mr.
Schinckel was appointed manager
of the Kybybolite Experimental
Farm. which the Government
established after purchasing the
Kybybolite Estate from the late Mr. R.
Kiddle, and Mr. Schinckel carried ou;
the pioneering work on the farm
through a difficult period. On relin-
quishing the management of the
Government Farm, Mr. Schinckel pur-
chased a farm now held by Mr. C.
Wagner about seven or eight miles from
Naracoorte, on the Bordertown road,
and after disposing of this holding he
became manager of the wool and skin
department of Messrs. DeGaris, Sons
and Co., Limited. He was for many
years a leading member of the Nara-
coorte branch of the Agricultural
Bureau, being chairman during several
periods, also secretary.
