MR. EDWIN JAMES KILSBY.
In our last issue we recorded the
death of an old and highly respected
resident of this district. We refer to
Mr. Edwin James Kilsby, of "Bala-
pur," who passed away after an illness
of two days on Thursday last. He
was driving a flock of sheep from one
of his paddocks to another, when he
had a seizure. He was taken to the
Mount Gambier Hospital, but he never
rallied and died as stated.
Mr. Kilsby was a son of the late
Mr. James Kilsby, "Bentley," Glen-
burnie, and he was born at Atta-
murra on May 24, 1861.. He was thus
74 years of age. His wife, a daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hos-
king, Mount Gambier, predeceased him
25 years ago. The members of his
family are Mr. Stanley K. Kilsby,
Bay road: and two daughters, Mala
(Mrs. Fred Gavens), Colac; and Miss
Winifred B., of Balapur. There are
five grandchildren. Messrs. G. H.
Kilsby, Frewville, Albert E. Kilsby, of
''Riversleigh,'' Morgan ; and C. E.
Kilsby, Glenburnie, are brothers
Messrs. A. A. Kilsby, Moorak, and
Fred. G. Kilsby, Adelaide, predeceased
him. He also leaves two sisters, Mes-
dames Bruce, Portland, and Annie
Kilsby, Attamurra. He was a member
of the Methodist Church and of the
Sons of Temperance Lodge. Further
than that he did not take an interest
in public matters.
As a young man he took up land at
"The Dairy," Mumbannar. This, after
a few years , he sold to go to the Wim-
mera, where he farmed for about 10
years. All the rest of his life he
spent in this district. Thirty years
ago he purchased a block of land from
the Moorak Estate, built a comfortable
residence, and there he has lived ever
since. He was of a retiring disposi-
tion, but was much liked by all his
friends. His funeral took place on
Friday last. The Rev. R. E. Stanley
conducted the funeral service, and Mr.
W. Pearce carried out the funeral
arrangements.
