MR. JOHN TELFER.
A correspondent sends us the following
note regarding the late Mr. John Telfer,
who died at Tantanoola on Sunday last:
--"Mr. John Telfer was the third son of
Mr. James Telfer, and was born at the
Peel, in Roxburghshire, Scotland, in 1840.
He came out to Adelaide in 1859. For
several years he was in the employ of
the late Mr. A. B. Murray, of Tungkillo.
He went to Tantanoola in 1874, and for
many years was engaged as a butcher
on the drains. Following that he took
over the general store in the early days
of Tantanoola. For a number of years
he carried on a butchering and store-
keeping business very successfully, but of
late years he had been in poor health.
He was a member of the first District
Council of Tantanoola. Two brothers
are left--Mr. James Telfer, J.P., of Port
Lincoln, and Mr. Adam F. Telfer, J.P.,
of Mitcham. Deceased leaves a widow
and a large family of sons and daughters."
