MRS. MOLDENHAUER, SEN.
After a period of prolonged suffering,
patiently endured, Mrs. Moldenliauer,
sen., passed away on Sunday,
April 6, at her son's residence at Wal-.
laroo. The deceased lady was an old
colonist, having arrived in the State
in 1847 from Cornwall after a voyage
lasting 101 days. She resided first at
Norwood, in days when blackfellows'
wurlies were numerous in Adelaide.
Mrs.- Moldenhauer had almost reached
her seventy-sixth year, and had resided
in this district half her lifetime.
In 1872 her husband took up land at
Condowie, and settled there with his
family in the following year, but. only
lived twelve months afterwards. Mrs.
Moldenhauer and her sons carried on.
the farm amid many hardships, arising
from bad seasons, until about five
years ago. She was one of the foundation
members of the Condowie Bible
Christian Church. The earliest ministers
of the circuit lived at her house,
and her eldest son helped to cart
material from Port Wakefield for the
Church building. The first Bible Christian
minister to preach at Condowie
was the Rev. John Dingle, whose next
service was to be held at Moonta. Mr.
W. H. Moldenhauer accompanied him
on his ride of miles through the dense
scrub. An interesting fact in Mrs.
Moldenhauer's life is that in Cornwall
she attended the Sabbath-school conducted
by the famous Silly Bray.
Though of a retiring disposition, she
was liked and respected by everyone,
and greatly beloved by her family, who
mourn the loss of a true mother. Her
daughter remained with her throughout
the trying weeks, and her sons
were constant in their attention. An
in memoriam service was held in the
Snowtown Church on Sunday evening.
April 13.
