7631Mr. Martin Towk, an old an respected
resident of the district, passed away on
Saturday morning (says the Minyip
Guardian) at the residence of his son-in-law
(Mr. Carl Petering) at Kircheim. The old
gentleman, who was 88 years of age, was a
native of Kotbus, in the province of Bran-
denburg, in Germany. Senile decay was
the cause of death. Mr. Towk landed to
Portland 45 years ago, and resided for a few
years in the Hamilton district where his
wife died in 1870. He then came to the
Wimmera, where he lived for the remainder
of his life. He leaves nine children and 61
grandchildren. He was father of Mr. M.
Towk (Murtoa), Mrs. Carl Petering, Mrs.
J. P. Tepper, Mrs. Chris. Nowotna, Mrs.
Hahrnel, Mrs. Hermann and Mrs. Uthmeyer
(Nhill), Mrs. Schultz (Bangerang), and Mrs.
Brookman (Jeparit).
