Mrs Mary Mertin nee Andres, Nuriootpa, died in Angaston Hospital on November 14, her 84th birthday. She was born at Maryborough, Qld., on November 14, 1872, being daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Carl Andres.
The family was flooded out three times before shifting to Nuriootpa in 1876. Mrs Mertin attended the old St Petri School in charge of Teacher Droegemueller, and was confirmed by Rev J. Reusch on October 31, 1886.
Her father and mother died in 1913 and 1914, and in 1929 she married Mr Carl Gustav Mertin at Angaston, late Rev F. J. Lehmann officiating. Mr Mertin died about 12 years ago.
Mrs Mertin enjoyed good health until about June, 1955. She is survived by one son, Frederick. Rev H. W. Proeve ministered at the funeral at Nuriootpa on Friday, bearers being Messrs Norman Kruger, Gus Lehmann, Hugo Falkenberg and Oscar Schultz.
