89927CORONER'S INQUEST.
WOMAN POISONS HERSELF
An inquest was held on Thursday by the City
Coroner (Dr. W. Ramsay Smith) at the residence of
Edward Rees Harry, of Hyde Park Road, into the
death of Mrs Juanita Harry. Mr. E. R. Harry
agreed that his late wife was 34 years of age,
and six months ago was operated upon for an
infection in the ear. On September 14 she told
him she had taken something and he at once
gave her an emetic, and sent for medical aid.
Montie Rush, employed by Mr. Harry, said that
on the day mentioned deceased had a tumbler in
her hand, and said that she was going to take
a dose of medicine for her head. After drinking
it she kissed one of the children and said 'Good-
bye.' Dr. K. S. Rogers said that for three weeks,
deceased had been suffering from influenza. She
had for some time been subject to fits of de-
pression and pain in the ear, and had told him
that she took the tabloids he had prescribed for
the ear trouble. When he had prescribed these
he had cautioned her in respect to their use and
they were marked "poison". Death was due to
the corrosive sublimate in them. The influenza
and pain in the ear together might have unhinged
her mind. The jury returned a verdict that the
deceased came to her death through poisoning by
her own act while of unsound mind.
