Obituary.

Mr. James Flett.-A man who was for
many years known in business in Mount  
Gambier, died on Thursday at his resi-
dence in Sturt-street, when Mr. James
Flett passed away. The deceased suffered
for over two years from a nervous affec-
tion, and for a considerable time was
compelled to keep to his house, and he
passed away quietly on Thursday, 24th
last. Mr. Flett was a native of
Stromness, in the Orkney Islands,
where he was born in October,
1836. He was thus 74 years of age.
He came to Adelaide in 1863, and after
remaining three years there, and finding
that the climate did not suit him, came
to Mount Gambier towards the end of
1866--44 years ago--and started busi-
ness here as a tailor and clothier. He  
carried on that business till about three
years ago, when declining health com-
pelled him to give it up. At Mount
Gambier he married, but his wife died in
1895. The deceased was for over 20  
years a member of the Presbyterian church
board of management. He was also a
member of the Mount Gambier Lodge of
Oddfellows, M.U., and a member of the
Caledonian Society. As a business man
he was honorable and upright in every
dealing, and was respected by all. He
leaves a family of two sons--Messrs John
and James Flett; and three daughters—
Mrs. John Hipwell, of West Australia,
and the Misses Flett, of Mount Gambier.
The funeral of deceased was held yester-
day. The Rev. G. M. Baird conducted
the religious service at the graveside,
and Mr. G. B. Renfrey was funeral dir-
ector.
