91714Mr. Ralph Everard Lucy died on Wednesday
at Modbury. He was born in Somersetshire,
England, on September 10 1816,
and came of an old English family
known in the time of Richard I by the
name of de Lucy. In 1853 Mr. Lucy married
a daughter of the late Dr. Everard,
and shortly afterward brought his wife to
South Australia. He soon obtained
employment under the late Mr. Emanuel
Solomon, auctioneer, who was joined by the
late Mr. Salom, find remained with the first
for 20 years. At the end of that period
he was appointed on the staff of the Central
Road Board, from which he resigned
to enter the Lands Titles Office. On his
retirement from the civil service, over 39
years ago, he removed to Modbury, where
he had once resided. Mr. Lucy was an
enthusiastic Freemason — in the early days
especially he did much toward the advance-
ment of the craft in South Australia— and
was a Past Master of the MacDonnell
Lodge, Glenelg. He was left a widow,
two sons— Messrs. A. E. Lucy (of the
Tramways Trust), Kensington, and Mr. W.
E. Lucy, of Modbury— two daughters— Mrs
Merrott, of Gilles Plains, and Miss Lucy,
of Modbury— and 13 grandchildren.
