William J. Lester
An old Millicent identity, Mr.
William James Lester, died at the
Thyne Memorial Hospital on
Tuesday, at the age of 82 years.
His health had been failing for a
couple of years. The late Mr.
Lester arrived at Millicent in the
late '70's, and worked on the
drains being constructed at Stony
Creek, Reedy Creek, and Hather-
leigh, and was later employed as
a labourer in many capacities.
He became a member of the Dis-
trict Council of Millicent, and was
for some years a Justice of the
Peace. He took ah active inter-
est in Labor politics throughout
his adult life. He married a
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs
George Willshire, of Millicent. His
wife died 16 years ago. There
were seven children of the mar-
riage, of whom six survive. They
are Messrs. Murray and Jack Les-
ter, of Adelaide, and Mesdames
H. Clark (Clara), Adelaide; T. H.
C. Bellinger (Edith), Millicent;
McIntyre (Annie), Adelaide, and
Harold Dean (Mary), Millicent.
