son ot the
late Mr. and
M r s. O.
Schwartz-
kopff, of Ta-
nunda. He
was born at
Tanunda
nearly 49
years ago,
and had been
a resident of
Renmark for
22. years.
Mr. Schwar-
tzkopff's first
job was in a
blacksmith's
shop at Ta-
nunda, fol-
lowing which
he spent five years at Waikerie
farming. It was on going to
Port Pirie later that he became
associated in a partnership with
his brother ("Buck") which con-
tinued through "thick and thin,
ups and downs", right up to the
time of his tragic death at the
scene of his boyhood days. The
brothers worked in the smelters
at Pirie for two or three years,
and then moved on to Broken
Hill where, they were employed
in the South Mine.
Deceased's first visit to Ren-
mark was some time before he
ultimately settled here. The
brothers for several years came
to Renmark from the Barrier to
help with the fruit harvest, and
later, again spent some time at
Port Pirie.
On finally coming to, make
their home at Renmark the
Schwartzkopff brothers were en-
gaged by Cuttle and Ogilvy in
their carrying business, and in
1928 they acquired for themselves
the business which they have so
successfully carried on since.
Ted Schwartzkopff had been a
member of the Renmark Fire
Brigade for 16 years, and was
also a member of the RAOB
lodge. In his younger days
he was a very keen horseman,
and was never happier than when
taming some outlaw.
A widow and eight children
survive. The eldest son, Bill,
is in the AIF, at present in Cen-
tral Australia, and two other
sons are following in their fath-
er's footsteps in the carrying
business. Mr. Schwartzkopff
also leaves three brothers and
four sisters.
Bearers at the funeral on Sun-
day afternoon were Messrs. W.
Prance, E. F. Evans, W. Rob
erts, H. Latz, F. Rice, and E.
W. Egge.
