c school teacher atYahl, died at Murat Bay, WestCoast, on June 16, at the age of 77years. He was born in Cumberland inNovember, 1843, and came toAustralia as a child withhis parents. As a young man hechose a seafaring life, and voyagedthree times round the globe. One voy-age he never forgot, and often relatedits incidents. It was to Hudson's Bay,North America, and the vessel onwhich he served was shipwrecked therein the winter, and being icebound forseveral months the crew suffered greatprivations. He published a book on hisexperiences later. He gave up his sail-ors' life, and settled in Australia. In1875 he married Miss Mary Lane, ofCreswick, Victoria, and took up teach-ing under the Education Departmentin that State. In the course of his lifehe was teacher of several schools inVictoria and South Australia. Therewere nine children of the marriage, twoof whom are dead. One of his sonsdied returning from the war in 1919.Mrs. Nicholson died at Yahl sevenyears ago. The surviving children ofthe deceased are Mrs. W. J. Watson, ofPerth, W.A.; Mr. Harold Nicholson, ofKoorda, W.A.; Mrs. H. L. Pasfield,Mount Gambier ; Mr. R. W. Nicholson,Wolseley : Mrs. L. Burdon, MuratBay ; Mrs. N. Millowick, MurrayBridge ; and Miss E. Nicholson, MountGambier. There are also 21 grand-children, and 2 great grandchildren.The deceased was a brother of the lateRev. Joseph Nicholson, who died sixweeks ago.
