LATE MRS. VONOW
Spent 54 Years in This
District

Mrs. Sussanna Vonow, who died re-
cently at Warnertown at the age of
72, had spent 54 years in the neigh-
borhood of Pirie, and was well-known
and highly respected.
She was born at Zurich, Switzer-
land, in 1863, and was the daughter
of a Mr. Muller, who had a small
holding in the district. She married
Mr. Conrad Vonow, and the young
couple migrated to Australia with
their infant son.
After arrival in South Australia
they took up a block in Hundred of
Pirie, and late Mr. Vonow entered
upon a share-farming venture with Mr.
Paul Johns at Pirie East. The Vonows
endured many hardships, but reso-
lutely fought their way along.
Their next-move was to Lower
Broughton, but crops failed badly
there, and they were forced to sell
out. More profitable was their farm-
ing at Warnertown, and Mr. Vonow
erected the fine home in which the
last years of his life and those of his
wife were spent.
Mr. Vonow was just beginning to
enjoy the fruits of his life's labor
when he died 15 years ago. His widow
enjoyed good health until about six
weeks before her death, which oc-
curred at her home. She was buried
with her husband and a son in the
little cemetery at Warnertown.
Mrs. Vonow was a devout church
worker. She was one of the founda-
tion members of the Lutheran Church
at Crystal Brook, and was responsible
for many quiet acts of charity.
Five sons and two daughters are
left. They are: Messrs. John, Harry,
and Allan (Warnertown), Edward
(Adelaide), and Herbert (Senate road
south, Pirie), Mesdames H. W.
Blieschke (Senate road, Pirie West),
and A. Traeger (Edilillie, West Coast).
There are 15 grandchildren
