Mr. Carl Hermann Nitschke, farmer, of
Steinfeld, 50 years of age, was killed yes-
terday while carting hay. He was riding
on the load, when two sheaves fell on the
horses, which took fright and plunged for-
ward, causing Mr. Nitschke to fall on the
pole of the vehicle. The horses broke
into a gallop, and Mr. Nischke was
thrown to the ground, two wheels passing
over him. Mounted-Constable Giles and
Mr. G. H. Walder, of Truro, drove to the
spot and found the unfortunate man lying
dead. Death was instantaneous. Mrs.
Nitschke witnessed the accident. The de-
ceased left a widow and 11 children, whose
ages range from 17 to two years.
