118950Mr. C. S. Holthouse
Mr. Charles Shelly Holthouse, who
died at a private hospital recently in
his 85th year, was the third son of
the late Mr. Edward Holthouse, who
arrived in South Australia from Eng-
land in 1838. Born at Macclesfield in
1852, he was educated at Whinham
College, North Adelaide, and was a
good athlete and a keen follower of
the gun. In 1877 he married Elizabeth
Mary, daughter of the late Rev. J. M.
and Sarah Lewis, of Gawler. He en
tered the service of the Post and
Telegraph Department in 1866, and
was postmaster at several country and
suburban post offices until his retire
ment from St. Peters post office in
1916. His wife died before him, and
the surviving members of the family
are: — Messrs. A. S. Holthouse (Park
side), E. E. Holthouse (Linden
Gardens), H. S. Holthouse (Mel
bourne), F. L. Holthouse (Rose Park),
Miss M. L. Holthouse (of St. Peters),
and Mrs. Debney (of Norwood)
