THE LATE MRS. S. A. WIL

LIAMSON
The death of Mrs. S. A. William
so, which took place at her resi-
dence, Portland road, Muddy Creek,
on 16th October, removed a well
known and highly respected identity,
and a colonist of Victoria and South
Australia of 67 years. Mrs. William
son was born in Brighton, Sussex,
England, and left there for Australia
in 1851, in the sailing ship Catherine.
with her mother, father, three si-
isters and brother, the late Mr. H.
Hickmer, Mrs. Thirvell, of Hamil
ton, and Mrs. E J. Morris, of Cam-
erdown, are two surviving sis-
ters. They landed at Adelaide, after
a long voyage of six months. After
a short stay in Adelaide, Mrs. Wil-
liamson lived in Melbourne for some
time. At the time of the great Vic-
toria gold rush she arrived in Mount
Gambier, where she was married.
Her husband, the late Mr. Peter Wil-
liamson, was among the first to take
up land at Murphy's creek, his selec-
tion adjoining the late Mrs. Knagg's
property. On the death of her hus-
band, with the aid of her sons, she
continued to live at the Murphy's
Creek farm, which she still held at
the time of her death, having held
the property for 52 years. Some 30
years ago she went with her sons
when the great selecting rush took
place and selected land at Telanga-
tuk East, where they carried on
sheep farming and bee keeping. Mrs.
Williamson returned to Hamilton
some eight years ago, and lived with
her son Mr. George Williamson at
Muddy Creek. She was of a jovial
disposition, and could relate many
interesting experiences of the earlv
pioneering days. After a short ill-
ness of some four days Mrs. William-
son passed peacefully away at the
advanced age of 89 years. Mr. Geo.
Williamson of Hamilton, and Mr.
David Williamson, of Nurrabiel, are
the surviving sons. There are also
three married daughters, Mrs. T. H.
Wakfer, of Telangatuk East, Mrs.
S. Hallam, of Wonwondah North,
and Mrs. Joseph Jackson, of Hamil-
ton, and 25 grandchildren and 18
great-grandchildren.
