Mr. Daniel Le Poidevin, aged 92 years,

died at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr.
John McCloud, Glen Bank, on Wednesday.
Mr. Le Poidevin was a native of Guernsey
and came to South Australia 68 years ago.
After working as a carpenter on several
public buildings in Adelaide he settled at
Morphett Vale, where he farmed for
many years. Mr. Le Poidevin had excit-
ing experiences on the way to the Bendigo
gold digging in the fifties. His party spent
£136 on equipment, and started on their
500 mile journey with aboriginal guides,
who deserted at a critical period. The
company arrived at Forest Creek after
travelling for five weeks, and Mr Le Poide-
vin built a store at the camp, while his
companions prospected. Later the whole
party went on to Bendigo, where they re-
mained for some time. There aro three
sons and four daughters, about 30 grand-
children, and 30 great-grandchildren.
