MR JOHN FRAUENFELDER'S WORK

IN VINE AND FRUITGROWING.
By "Inlander"
I.
The closing of the life of Mr John
Frauenfelder a couple of weeks ago at
the advanced age of 82 years removed a
man who had played many parts in the
fruit world. Possessed of a power of
discernment in a remarkable degree in
matters horticultural, his most ambitions
schemes for improving in one way or an
other the production, grading and mar-
keting of fruit were all realised. In the
years now long gone by when, fruit grow-
ing was in its infancy and an industry
little understood by many of those at
first engaging in it, Mr Frauenfelder had
acquired a inowledge of the culture of
'vines and fruits which he was always
ready to impart to all who came to aim
tor advice. The strides made in recent
years in fruitgrowing around Lavington
were largely due to the success of 3Ir
Frauenfelder in orchard work generally,
for no better stimulus is there than suc-
cess. The Lavington district is now well
known in the Sydney and Melbourne fruit
markets, and the district is each year
expanding on careful lines …
