Possessed of a power ofdiscernment in a remarkable degree inmatters horticultural, his most ambitionsschemes for improving in one way or another the production, grading and mar-keting of fruit were all realised. In theyears now long gone by when, fruit grow-ing was in its infancy and an industrylittle understood by many of those atfirst engaging in it, Mr Frauenfelder hadacquired a inowledge of the culture of'vines and fruits which he was alwaysready to impart to all who came to aimtor advice. The strides made in recentyears in fruitgrowing around Lavingtonwere largely due to the success of 3IrFrauenfelder in orchard work generally,for no better stimulus is there than suc-cess. The Lavington district is now wellknown in the Sydney and Melbourne fruitmarkets, and the district is each year
