The death of Mr. John August
Jaeger, of "Thornleigh," The Rock
(as was briefly reported on Wednes-
day), which took place In Melbourne
on Monday evening, came as a shock
to most people of The Rock and dis-
trict as he had only been laid up
for a week. Mr. Jaeger had resided
In The Rock district for just on 40
years. He was well known and
highly respected, and was also a good
churchman, being a member of the
Methodist Church at The Rock and
also at Mangoplah. The body was
placed In the church at The Rock
and the funeral took place yester-
day morning. leaving the church at
10 o'clock for The Rock cemetery
There was a large cortege, many
friends meetlng at the church and
also at the cemetery to pay their
last respects to the deceased. The
Rev F. N. Pagdin of Lockhart held
a service in the church and also
officiated at the graveside and spoke
In very high terms of the life the
deceased had lived. The casket was
carried by three sons, Ernie (AIF),
Victor and Alf. Roy Condon (son-
in-law) and James and Les Michael
(neighbors). The floral tray was in
the care of Messrs. C. Condon, D.
Klimpsch, Reg Goldsmith and W. H.
Kendall, all close friends of the de-
ceased. Among the many wreaths
was one frome The Rock Methodist
Church Aid Society. The chief
mourners at the graveside besides
those mentioned above were the be-
reaved widow (Mrs. Jaeger), two
daughters, Thelma (Mrs. R. Condon)
and Miss Elsie Jaeger of The Rock
and Mrs. W. Schultz (sister), of
Wagga. The funeral arrangements
were carried out by Messrs. W. G.
Aipps and Sons, of Fitzroy and W.
H. Magrath, of The Rock.
