suddenly at his residence, Glen-
coe East, on Sunday, May 23, at
the age of 86 ye
ars, was one ofthe old pioneers and the last ofthe station hands, of Glencoe, adistrict which he left more pros-perous than he found it.The late Mr. Poulton was bornat 15 Robert Street, Plumstead,Kent, England, in December 1861.As a lad he was employed inWoolwich Arsenal, England. Atthe age of 18 he came to Austra-lia, and gained his first colonialexperience in Queensland andVictoria. He then settled in theSouth-East, and was employed byMessrs. Leake Bros, and later onMessrs. Riddoch's Glencoe Sta-tion.He was responsible for thepresentation of a petition to Par-liament which resulted in the in-troduction of the first workingmen's blocks, which were thenlimited to 20 acres per man. Onone of these he built his home 50years ago.On June 30, 1889; Mr. Poultonwas married to Miss CarolineFeast, who predeceased him fiveyears ago. Children of the unionwho are living are George Alfred,Gertrude Irene (Mrs. Anderson),Ida Grace (Mrs. Gay), AdelineBarbara (Mrs. Koch), all of Ade-laide; Edward Griffiths, Wood-side; and Rex Harold, GlencoeEast. One daughter, Olive Maud,is dead. The whereabouts of sur-viving brothers and sisters arenot known.Mr. Poulton was a member ofthe Church of England, and thefuneral, took place on May 25.Archdeacon Donald Redding per-formed the last rites, and ErnJames carried out the mortuaryarrangements.
