OBITUARY

ME. A. T. PERTZEL
The death occurred in the Henty
Community Hospital on Friday
morning iast of Adolph Theodore
Pertzel, of 'Blue Hill,' Ryan, at the
age of 78 years and 11 months. Dur
ing the past few years he had been
in indifferent health, and on several
occasion was compelled to seek hos-
pital treatment. His last illness was
only of short duration.
Deceased was born at Hamilton, Vic
toria, in 1864, and he was one of a
large family. When he was nine years
of age he came, with his parents and
their family, to reside at Walla Walla.
He remained in and around Walla
Walla until 1891, when he married
Miss Martha Augusta Heppner, of
Gerogery.
The wedding was celebrated at
Bethul, near Burrumbuttoek. Im-
mediately after their marriage, he and
his wife came to live at Ryan, where
he had purchased a property known
as 'Blue Hill,' and where they con-
tinuously resided up to the time of
his death— a period of over 52 years.
From time 'to time the original area
purchased was added to by the selec
tion and purchase s-t adjoining land.
In April, 1941, the late Mr. Pertzel
and his wife celebrated their golden
wedding anniversary, and a party was
tendered to them by their children,
relatives and friends at their home,
'Blue Hill.'
The late Mr. Pertzel was a keen
churchman and a kind and considerate
neighbor. He was held in high es-
teem by a large circle of friends, who
will mourn the passing of yet another
of the early pioneers of the Henty  
district
He is survived by his widow, two
daughters, Mrs. F. Ruhe (Henty) and
Mrs. W. W. Wolter (Ryan), one son,
Mr. Fred Pertzel, of 'Blue Hill, Ryan,  
and nine grandchildren. Four brothers
and two sisters also survive him.
The funeral, which was large and
representative, took place on Saturday
afternoon in the Trinity Lutheran
portion of the Henty cemetery, Pastor
A. J. Lohe conducting both church
and cemetery services. The coffin
bearers were Messrs Vernon Wolter,
Alton Pertzel, Reg Ruhe and Private
Sid Ruhe (grandsons), and W. O.
Kohn and- Alex Yensch (nephews),
while the wreaths were carried by
Messrs. B. E. Zweck, C. C. Campbell,
Edwin Paech and J. Klemke. Mr. E.
Cochrane had charge of the funeral
arrangements.
