21842The death of Mr. E. F. J. Strempel
(brother of Pastor Strempel, of Hahndorf),
which took place on Monday
last, removes another old colonist.
Deceased was born at Posen, in Germany,
on August 4, 1829, and arrived
at Port- Adelaide with his father and
mother and two brothers on December
28, 1851. He was engaged in the
scholastic profession for 24 years in
North Rhine, after which he carried on
his trade of book-binder at Nuriootpa
for 13 years, retiring to Hahndorf in
1902. He was twice married, first in
1855 and secondly in 1883 to Mrs.
Caroline Maetze, nee Kutscher, who,
with two daughters from the first
marriage, survives him. The cause of
death was bronchitis and heart failure.
The funeral, which was largely attended,
took place at the Hahndorf Cemetery
on Wednesday afternoon, Pastor
Brauer officiating at the grave.
