March 21:— Mr. Gottfried Mader died at
Light's Pass last week at the age of 80
years, having been a colonist of 63 years.
He was born in the province of Posen,
Germany, and came out in the sailing ship
August, under Capt. Meier, in August,
1856 when only 17. He landed at Port
Adelaide, and came to Light's Pass, where
he undertook rural pursuits. In 1863 he
married Miss J. C. Schilling, and had a
family of 13 children, nine of whom sur
vive. He has left four sons (Messrs.
Earnest Adolph, Gottfried Alfred, Fried
rich Wilhelm, and Carl Benno), all of
light's Pass, and five daughters— Mes-
dames A. Gulach (Light's Pass), W.
Stanitzky (Penrice), A. Schulz (Nurioot
pa), H. Geisler (Kangaroo Island), and. J.
Thomas (Nuriootpa). There are also 48
grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
