Mrs. Skurray, who died recently
at her residence, Gawler south, aged
82, was born in Wedhampton,
Somersetshire, England. She came to
South Australia with her parents Mr
and Mrs. James Clement Barter, at the
age of 5 years, a sister and two bro
thers, the youngest (Charles Atlantic)
was born during the voyage, two sis
ters, Harriet and Sarah, aged 9 and II
years, remained in England with two
aunts. Mr. Barter was manager at
the brewery of Messrs. Simms & Hay
ter, Adelaide. Mrs. Skurray was an
old resident of Gawler. Her husband,
Mr. Thomas Henry Skurray, was
in business for many years, for
over 50 years in the retail wine trade,
and had a newspaper agency for 36
years. Mrs. Skurray was of a retiring
disposition, and had a bright nature.
Her brother. Mr. Clement Barter,
kept the Saltia Hotel, near Port
Augusta, for many years and her
sister, Mrs. Arthur Skurray, died only
a few months ago at Cockatoo Valley
seven miles from Gawler). The sur
viving members of the family . are
Misses E. G. and C. J- Skurray, Gawler
South; and Mrs. W. T. Brereton,
Jamestown; and Messrs. H. P. and W.
B. Skurray. Gawler South: and J. C.
Skurray. Jamestown. There are 10
grandchildren and two great-grandchil-
dren.
