IN M E M O R I A M .
MRS. DORCAS TREMELLING.
Mrs. Dorcas Tremelling was born at
Ivingscote, Kangaroo Island, in the
year 1838. Her birth took place in
the middle one of three historic houses
known as Faith, Hope, and Charity.
She was the j r oungest of four children
born to Mr. and Mrs. James Buttress
Rowe, who had arrived from England
in the ship South Australia in
1837. During our late sister's girlhood
the family removed to Dry
Creek. Here she married and lived
for a number of years, but her husband,
Robert Walkley, dying early in
married life, left her with two children.
Fourteen years later she married
Mr. John Tremelling and came to
live in West Mitcham, but after a
number of years of happiness she was
again left a widow.
Mrs. Tremelling died suddenly at
her residence, George Street, Mitcham
West, on Friday morning, February 1,
leaving one daughter, Amy Walkley,
and one grand-daughter, Roberta
Walkley. Her passing was swift and
beautiful—in a moment she entered to
the joyful presence of her Master. The
peacefulness of her death was a fit
consummation of a life fruitful in all
spiritual grace. The word of God was
always her companion, the sacred page
was ever open. Thus would she meditate
day and night. Despite her advanced
age her hands were never idle,
her needle being constantly employed
for the needy poor of the various
Missions of Methodism. Her task on
the eve of her death was one such as
these. The spirit of the Dorcas who
ministered to the needs of the poor
widows of the Apostolic Church passed
into our late sister without diminution
of glory. But now the tasks she
loved are laid aside; she rests in
blessedness.
"Now the labourer's task is o'er,
Now the battle day is past;
Now upon the further shore
Lands the voyager at last.
Father, in Thy gracious keeping,
Leave we now Thy servant sleeping."
