Martha Mouat was born in
Northmavine, Shetland Is on November 7, 1851, the daughter of Arthur Mouat and Martha nee Smith.
Martha was christened on 7 Jun 1851 in the Church of Scotland.
In 1861, Martha, then 10, accompanied her father, mother and sister
(Robina
Fordyce) to Australia aboard the Commodore Perry.
