The Emmy of 554 tons was built in Stockholm in 1847 and was acquired by the Hamburg shipping firm of Johann Caesar Godeffroy & Sohn

Under the command of captain JHO Meyer the Emmy departed Hamburg on 6 September 1849 and arrived in Port Phillip (Melbourne) on 19 December 1849 where most of the passengers disembarked.  The Emmy arrived in Port Adelaide on 16 January 1850.

The Emmy departed Port Adelaide 17 February 1850 for Singapore.

Passenger List

The Emmy carried 6 passengers in the cabin and 369 in steerage, including 145 ultimately bound for Adelaide; 28 died of dysentery, etc., on the voyage to Melbourne (7 female, 8 male and 16 children).  There were two births.  The passenger list below is based on a partial passenger list that appears in [6], which focusses on the passengers that disemarked at Port Phillip, and additional information from various web sites and other references [1-3]. 

A group of immigrants that arrived the Emmy formed the basis of Germantown settlement (now Grovedale near Geelong).
