June 3. - An old colonist (Mrs. Stock-
well) died on Sunday last at the age of
86 years. The funeral, which took place
to-day, was largely attended. The Rev.
W. H. Newbold officiated at the grave.
The late Mrs. Stockwell was the widow of
Mr. Samuel Stockwell, after whom this
township was named. She arrived in the
colony with her parents in the year 1839.
Mrs. Stockwell settled here with her hus-
band over 50 years ago, and had lived here
ever since. Her husband had been dead
about 30 years. There are four sisters liv-
ing, Mrs. Jackson, of Salisbury; Mrs. Run-
dle, of Mount Barker; and Misses Folliet
(2). Mr. Samuel Stockwell, of Truro, is a
son, and Mrs. Heddle, of Eba, a daughter.
Measles are raging in this district at pre-
sent. Out of a roll number of 72, only 19
children were present at the local school
to-day.
