MRS. W. H. HARDY.
The death of Mrs. W. H. Hardy
which occurred at Adelaide on the
20th, February, removes another old
and highly esteemed identity of
Burra. Born at Wirrabara on May
30th, 1861, she was the eldest
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
W.
Kroncke, of Kooringa, the fam-
ily having come to Burra to reside
in her girlhood days. She later
married Mr. W. H. Hardy, and al-
ways resided in the town until just
prior to her decease.
Thirty years ago the late Mrs.
Hardy suffered a disability, and
as the result of a stroke,
lost the use of her left arm. Recov-
ering her health she did not allow
this trouble to affect her and lived
alone until old age compelled her to
give up her home and reside with
her daughter, Mrs. Bert Oppermann.
From thence she would make
periodical visits to other members
of her large family.
Prior to her death she was stay
ing with her daughter, Mrs. Winzer
of Adelaide, for some time.
Mrs. Hardy, until the last few
years, or until failing health com-
pelled her to stay at home, was all
her life, connected with the Koo-
ringa Methodist Church and a
regular attendant at worship. Her
husband predeceased her many
years ago. She had a family of
14 children, eleven of whom sur-
vive. Nell, Mrs. Ryan, of Adelaide,
Esther, Mrs. Bert Opperman, Burra
North; Mr. George Hardy, of
Plympton; Vera, Mrs. Findlay; An-
nie, Mrs. A. Winzer, both of Ade
laide; Marion, Mrs. Davey, of Syd-
ney; Ettie, Mrs. Drabsch; Stella,
Mrs. F. Innes, both of Adelaide;
Jean, Mrs. Drage, Pt. Pirie; May,
Mrs. McGee and Mr. Will Hardy, of
Adelaide. There are 33 grandchil
dren, and several greatgrandchil
dren.
Her eldest daughter, Lily, Mrs.
Bert Wise, of Katanning, W.A., died
about two years ago and another
daughter and son passed away in
infancy.
One grandson, Pte. Rex Opper
man, is in the 2nd A.I.F., and a son
in-law, Pte. McGee, is a member of
the Medical Corps in Palestine.
The remains were brought to
Burra and laid to rest in the Koo-
ringa cemetery on Friday afternoon
The service was conducted by the
Rev. V. R. Secombe, and the funer
al arrangements by Messrs C. J.
Pearce & Son.
The bearers were Messrs T. H.
Woollacott, W. March, H. Hill and
C. J. Williams
