81824GOLDEN WEDDING.
On October 15 Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Ort-
loff celebrated their golden wedding at
their residence, "Ordale," Tailem Bend.
Those present included their seven chil-
dren, Messrs. Charles, John, Victor, Leo
faard, Ortloff, and Mesdames W. Mat
thews, E. T. Herbert, and Miss Blanche
Ortloff, and their grandchildren. There
were also present Mrs. Ortloffs two sis-
ters Mrs W. J. Eisworthy, of Kadina,
and Mrs. S. Harrison, of Yocka. Mr. and
Mrs. Ortloff were married by the Rev. C G.
Taplin, at All Saints' Church. Moonfci,
where they resided for 53 years, prior to
leaving for Tailem Bend to take up land.
Mr. and Mrs. Ortloff received many band
some presents. Dancing and games were
enjoyed in the dining room, which was
tastefully decorated with gold and white
streamers and balloons. Mr and Mrs.
Ortloff are both natives of South Aus-
tralia.

Mr. Wilhelm
Ortloff, 86, who died
on May 11. at Tailem Bend, was bom
at Tanunda. He began working when
very young. There were no schools in
the vicinity where he was reared, so
he educated himself, and was able
to read end speak English and German
fluently. When a young man he traded
on the River Murray, between
Blanchetown and Wentworth, but
lost all his stock when his boat was
swamped In the 1870 flood. After a
few years of river life he went to
Moonta. where he worked for the firm
of Smith and Howie, drapers, and
later on his own account. Here in 1875
he married Miss Louisa Nagel, who
died four years ago. He took part in
the early gold rushes to Southern
Cross and Coolgardie, but returned
to Moonta and started farming in the
surrounding districts. At the age of
70 he took up land near Tailem Bend,
and about six and a half years ago he
relinquished it to reside in the town
ship. He was a foundation member
of the Hamley Lodge, M.U., also the
Foresters' Lodge, of Moonta, holding
all the offices in both Orders. He left
four sons— Charles, of Renmark;
John, Victor, and Leonard, of Moor-
lands; and three daughters, Mesdames
B. Matthews, of Wayville; D. Herbert,
of Moorlands; and Miss Banche Ort-
loff, of Tailem Bend.
