The death occurred on October 3, at
his residence, Ngapala, of Mr. David
Stephen Heaslip. Born at Nelshaby
near Port Pirie in 1865, he was the
eldest son of Mrs. and the late Mr.
David Heaslip, of Gladstone. At seven
years of age he went with his parents
to the Gladstone district, where he
was educated at a private school and
the Gladstone public school. After the
death of his father he was employed
by the late Mr. Robert Heaslip for a
number of years, later going to Queens-
land coltbreaking on various stations.
In 1891 he took up land at Belton,
and the following year married Jessie,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm
Logan, of Huddleston, who died in 1898.
He married Elizabeth, eldest daughter
of Mrs. and the late Mr. T. Carter, of
Black Rock in 1899. In 1907 he relin-
quished farming at Belton. and took
up land at Ngapala. A lover of horses
he bred and showed some good ponies.
He took a keen interest in all local
affairs. He was a justice of the peace,
a councillor in the Julia District Coun-
cil for ten years, and chairman for two
years, chairman of the Ngapala school
committee, president of the Julia Dis-
trict Hall, and a member of the
Eudunda Freemasons' Lodge. A keen
coursing enthusiast he was president
of the Julia and Point Pass Coursing
Club from its formation until it was
disbanded. The widow and the fol-
lowing family survive:— Messrs. K. R.
and S. P. and Misses J. L. and E. J.
Heaslip (Ngapala), Miss E. M. Heaslip
(Gladstone), and Mrs. S. B. King
(Adelaide). There are also three
grandchildren. Messrs. S. Heaslip
(Gladstone), and H. Heaslip (Rich
mond) are brothers, and Mesdames G.
Prat (Farrell's Flat), and W. Bruse
(.Norwood), are sisters.
