The list of early settleis of the Blumberg
district is fast becoming less, and on Friday
Mrs. Haveker, widow of the late Mr. Diert
ricb Haveker, joined the great majority.
The deceased was born in Hamburg,
Germany, in 1S3G, and in 1854 arrived in
South Australia with h'*r parents, thus being
a colonist of 53 years. Shortly after her
arrival she was married to Mr. D. Haveker
and settled at Blumberg, where Mr. Haveker
took the Napoleon Bonaparte Hotel and
retained the proprietorship until 1880, when
he went into retirement. Mr. Haveker pre
deceased his wife. For several months the
deceased lady had been in indifferent health,
but only during the past seven weeks was
she confined to her bed. During her trying
illness she manifested remarkable patienee.
and to the end possessed a wonderfully
retentive memory. The deceased was highly
respected by all who knew her. The
remains were interred in the ltlumherg
Cemetery on Sunday afternoon, in the pre-
sence of a large number of relatives and
friends. The Rev. R. Taylor, of Gumeracha,
officiated. The surviving daughters are
Mrs. C. Sturm (Blumherg), Mrs. E. Brusge
mann (North Adelaide), and Mrs. A. Fopp
(Blumberg).
