86971Mr. F. W. FRIEBEL
Mr. Friedrich Wilhelm Friebel who
died recently at Rainbow (Vic.), at
the age of 66, was a mallee pioneer,
one of the noble band of settlers who
materially assisted in the development
of the mallee district. He was a foun-
dation member of the Rainbow Agricul-
tural Society, at the annual shows of
which he acted as steward in its early
history. He was born at Light's Pass
in 1867, and was a son of Gottfried
Heinrich and Marie Lydia
Louisa Friebel (nee Bothe). His father
died when he was nine months old, and
at the age of nine years he removed
with his mother and stepfather to Min-
laton. From there the family went to
Victoria, and settled at Katyil, near
Dimboola, in 1886, where he married
Emma Emilie Nuske, of Murtoa. There
were 12 children, seven sons and five
daughters. The surviving children are:
—Alfred. William, Oscar. Herbert, Al-
bert, Julius, Norman, Emma (Mrs.
Schultz, of Dimboola), Martha, Ruby
(Mrs. A. Olive) and Alma. There are
15 grandchildren and one great-grand-
child.
