MR W.DUFFIELD, AGED 84.
Mr. William Duffield, who passed
away at his residence, near Bugle
Ranges, on the 11th inst., was 84
years of age and had been in this dis-
trict since 1851. He was born in Eng-
land and sailed, with his wife in the
ship Bassoria Marchant (under Cap-
tain Edmonds) from London for Mel-
bourne on January 17, 1850. The
voyage out occupied 23 weeks, and
after being in Victoria for about a
year Mr. and Mrs. Duffield came to
South Australia and settled on the
place which has been the homestead of
the family ever since and was called
Wistow, a name which now applies to
the settlement in general. Deceased
was very highly esteemed. He leaves a
widow (83 years of age), three sons
(Messrs. John, William, and Thomas
Duffield, farmers, of Willowie), and
two daughters (Mrs. R. Piggott, of
Willowie, and Mrs. J. H. Harrip, of
Wistow). and there are 27 grandchil-
dren and 18 great-grandchildren. The
interment took place at the Zion Hill
Cemetery on the 13th inst., the Rev.
S. Kessell, of Mount Barker, officiating.
