A correspondent writes :--Death has
claimed one of the old residents of
Mount Gambier in the person of Philli-
pa, relict of the late Mr. Zackariah
Golley. Born at Truro, England, in 1843,
where she married and set sail for
Australia with her young husband, ar-
riving at Port MacDonnell in the Can-
terbury in the year 1866. She then
came on to Mount Gambier, where she
lived up till the time of her death,
having lived in the one house for 56
years. The late Mrs. Golley was highly
respected, and was an interesting per-
sonality on the early history of Mount
Gambier. Prior to her declining years
the deceased lady was ever ready to
assist those in need, and had gained
sufficient knowledge of nursing in sick-
ness that was of great assistance to
those afflicted and in want. A family
of four sons--William, Hamilton ;
James, Richmond, Victoria : Zackar-
iah and Joseph, of Mount Gambier ;
and Mrs. von Stanke (deceased) and
Mrs. F. Vears, of Mount Gambier, 13
grandchildren, and 10 great grand-
children--survive. The late Mr. Golley
predeceased her seven years ago.
