Mr. Henry Francis Duffield, who died in
the Adelaide Hospital on Monday, as the
result of having been knocked down by a
tramcar in front of that institution on
Thursday evening, was born in Norfolk in
1845, and came out to South Australia with
his parents in 1861. Nine years later he
married the second daughter of the late
Captain William Mattinson. Mr. Duffield
followed the occupation of a farmer success-
ively at Wistow, Cooke's Plains, Lucindale
and Wolseley, where he remained for 21
years, and, among other public positions
served on the district council. Then he
went to Narracoorte, next to Gawler River,
and finally settled at Athelstone, where he
had worked as a market gardener for four
years. The deceased has left a widow, six
sons, and one daughter.
