Mrs. Richard Duffield, who died recently
at the age of 82, was an old resident of
the northern areas, living either in Koo-
lunga or Crystal Brook districts since 1874
(writes our Crystal Brook correspondent).
She was born at Kellin, near Holt, in Nor-
folk, in 1825. She was married there. Mrs.
Duffield arrived in South Australia with
her husband, four sons, and one daughter
in the ship Ramalees in 1860. They re-
sided in the Mount Barker district, at
Wistow, for several years, and also at
Langhorne's Creek. Subsequently they
joined the large number who selected land
in the north, when the areas were opened,
and settled at Koolunga. Mr. Duffield died
about 17 years ago, and 12 years ago the
widow went to Crystal Brook district to re-
side with her youngest son, Mr. Joseph
Duffield, who is engaged in farming pur-
suits. All her children surviveāMesdames
Robert and J. Badman, of Yacka; and T.
Story, Franklin Harbour; and Messrs.
Francis, Richard, John A., and Joseph
Duffield, of Athelstone, Koolunga, Port
Pirie, and Crystal Brook.
